Why did I choose ODU?

As an out of state student, I often get asked the question “Why Old Dominion?”. Most people think it’s random and most people back home had never heard of ODU. There are three main reason why I had decided on Old Dominion: money, it had what I wanted, and the location.

Money was definitely the biggest reason why I came to Old Dominion. Old Dominion had offered me an academic scholarship and immediately became my cheapest option. Even though $25,000 a year still sounds very expensive, it is a definitely a lot cheaper than the other schools prices of $50,000.

The reason why I had even applied to this school in the first place was because it had the main elements i wanted for a college experience. Old Dominion has Division 1 sports, Greek Life, and the major I wanted (Civil Engineering). I wanted these three things because otherwise I personally wouldn’t have been happy.

Another deciding factor was the location of Old Dominion. I really enjoy the weather. The campus has some beautiful spots. Also it is far enough from home for me.
