I’ve learned a great deal about different aspects of cell biology this semester. One of the major topics we learned about that helped me with other course work was the detailed description of lac operon. This was important to know since, luckily, both cell biology and genetics coincided when we were learning about this specific topic. Being able to easily switch from one classroom to the next was a lifesaver, especially when we had to label the lac operon genes, and the specific parts of the gene – such as LacZ, LacY, and LacA genes. Another help was how the uptake of lactose, and what would happen if it didn’t have it at all. Having never heard of such genes before, walking through it in detail during class made me much more comfortable with the material and I was able to get a perfect score on the assignment for it in genetics.
