How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Over the many years digital data has become vital for companies to run. However, because of the need for technology in the workplace there are many new weaknesses and vulnerabilities that can harm a company. Furthermore, the main vulnerability to cybersecurity is people as they can absentmindedly share secret information or even have harmful intent. People can purposefully chose to harm the business’s they work at in efforts to seek revenge on employees or employers. One way an employee may lash out is my stealing information that the company is protecting and selling it to the public or anyone who may rival the company. In very rare cases employees can join a company only to steal information to make money selling it to the blackmarket, politicians, or any other rival who wants to use it. Employees may also purposefully shut down security systems to leave the company at risk for an attack. Employees can change important document and data to achieve their malicious ends, and that leaves customers at risk. The whole system can be damaged and all integrity can be lost based on a few upset employees. The whole industry is at risk when even a couple of these incidents happen.
Companies cannot simply trust all possible employees who walk the through the door because they can be potential risks. However this issue has can be tackled by background checking new employees and security clearance tests can be given to declare trust. As more cyber technology enters the workplace new methods of deviance will be found, and that means a big job for cybersecurity companies will be to discover new ways to end that deviance. Cybersecurity exists to adapt to new risks, threats, and vulnerabilities to make the cyber technology secure.
