Why are you interested in cybersecurity technology?
I feel like technology is just something that connects with my personality. I’m quite the introvert and I like to be by myself alone without disturbing anyone. Don’t get me wrong I have plenty of great friends but surprisingly, not many of them are techno geeks like myself. I just have a natural affinity for computers and technology. Although you may find it surprising that I hate social media and I hate taking family photos, because I always hated the thought of putting myself on the Internet. My family doesn’t make that easy and if it was up to me, I’d burn all of the pictures that had me included. I do use social media, but I don’t post anything or put anything up. I only use it to follow news and things that interest me. They’re plenty of other computer jobs so why cybersecurity you ask? Because from what I’ve learned so far, it’s an important job for the future that pays a lot of money. I wanted to be flexible with what I major in, and I feel like cybersecurity is a field where I can fit into many job offerings.
Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.
Originally, I was actually in Information technology and systems but that was a lot of classes, so I switched to cybersecurity. They both deal with online information, data and working with applications, software, and systems. Another major I wish I knew more about earlier was computer science. I’m mostly familiar when it comes to coding. I’ve tried JavaScript, C#, and HTML. I haven’t tried python yet or used a Linux operating system, but I do know that ethical hackers use this sort of style for penetration testing and identifying problems and bugs. Cybercrime is also a class and a major that I am currently taking alongside with this class. Alongside with cyberlaw as well, it’s important to understand the law and what is considered a cybercrime. I learned that they’re no real laws regarding what’s considered cybercrime. The internet isn’t being monitored by anyone because it isn’t owned by an individual or country. It was also mentioned in the introduction to cybersecurity video, that Sociology is another major that is important to cybersecurity. I am currently taking this class as well, and it tries to understand why people do things and why certain people act a certain way. The four majors I’ve are IT, Computer Science, Cybercrime, and Sociology.
