LEP In Cybersecurity
This article’s main focus is to bring awareness to cybersecurity education in order to increase interest in the cyber field. Using things like classes and workshops to target many different people in different age groups. This would hopefully prompt people to want to further pursue cybersecurity as a career and help bring more people into jobs. An issue that’s arising is that English is the only language that is available in cyber prevention programs causing issues if people from other countries want to learn cyber. Communication is important in any job field and if there is a language barrier between coworkers it becomes an issue. This same thing applies to people that live in countries like Spain and Vietnam who may not speak English, they can’t really learn anything if they don’t understand what the instructors are saying. I bring up Spain and Vietnam specifically because in the article they mention a pilot study where the participants are exposed to cybersecurity and internet safety information and resources and see how they respond to it. It is being tested on three focus groups with Spanish and Vietnamese speaking people. This is all to help create a curriculum that helps the people in the LEP community. This is great as it helps expand cybersecurity to other countries and bring more awareness to people to pursue the field. Even in the U.S. there are so many jobs in cybersecurity that companies are practically begging more people to join the field. This is an amazing career path that will not only have amazing pay and benefits but also is very flexible. Most companies don’t even need you to go into an office or building and work behind a desk, you can work from home. The hours also tend to be very flexible which is another plus. Having classes that focus on computers or technology I feel is important to have nowadays especially in the world we live in. Kids nowadays are being raised on technology with phones, tablets, computers etc. Having them learn about these cyber things would be great and bring more interest to the field.
