The interactions between victims and offenders has fundamentally changed since the rise of cyber technologies. The internet has given rise to anonymity. Many offenders have the ability to remain anonymous, meaning that they are much harder to catch and criminalize. This also means that many victims do not get the Justice they deserve. It is much harder for our police system to actually find and catch cyberstalkers. Most states, however, have laws and policies that make it a bit easier. There are now certain things that are prohibited on different websites. While this isn’t an easy problem to solve, we are making strides to make the internet a safe place for everyone.Cyber Technologies has also made it a lot easier for people to become victims of cyber harassment. Anonymity has given people more of an opportunity to harass or stalk other people online. You can create a random account, post the random picture, and then message anyone you want. This Freedom has allowed people to take advantage of others. While the internet has done so much good for us, it has also allowed people to take advantage of it and treat others with disrespect. This issue is so nuanced, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It is very hard to police people on a very public platform. When developing cyber policies, it is important we keep the victims in mind. Cyber stalking and cyber harassment a real and they happen every single day. The policies that are created must help the victims while giving the right consequences to the offender. This line, however, is very hard to walk. It is very hard to tell when a crime has occurred but it is important that we start establishing a baseline in this field. When discussing this matter, it is going to be different for everyone. Some people want harsher punishment oh, some people want little to no punishment. It will take a long time to decide what are the right policies for cyber harassment but I am confident that we can figure them out.
