This article focuses on the growing threat of cybercrime in Nigeria. The authors want to make others aware of this and educate them and increase efforts to avoid and fight these crimes. Crimes such as scams, identity theft, and hacking; that affect people and businesses. This relates to the principles of social sciences in many ways. It talks about criminology and sociology to help the readers understand the issue of cybercrime in Nigeria. The culture and their economy have a great effect on technology and cybercrime. The nature of crime and the effects on this society are talked about and brought to the reader’s attention. A research question for this article to ask readers would be, “What is the current level of awareness about cybercrime among marginalized groups in Nigeria and how does this impact their experiences and perceptions of online security?” Nigeria has lower levels of awareness about cybercrime compared to other countries, which increases their risk of falling victim to cybercrime. A mix of most of the research methods were used. Most definitely surveys and experiments were conducted, with some field research. The article consists of a good amount of data and statistics, such as financial losses. One main challenge is that there is a lack of technical expertise there. The authors address challenges and concerns faced by marginalized groups in Nigeria relating to cybercrime. Groups such as women and the elderly are usually at higher risk of becoming a victim of cybercrime. This article did really well giving insight and awareness of specific challenges faced by these specific groups in Nigeria. This can help inform policies to help educate them and give technological access. How the article relates to the concepts from our class is that with Nigeria being a third world country, this is basically the investigation and somewhat experimentation of cybersecurity. This puts things into perspective, giving another view from somewhere or someone else, which helps create multiple cybersecurity solutions because of how much you can learn from this country technologically. With people of Nigeria and our society being aware of this cybercrime problem, Nigerians will be more safe online and the society can help contribute.
